The Hammar H20 is an HRU designed to fit liferafts of all shapes and sizes. It is made of glass fiber reinforced nylon, which prevents it from corroding. The H20 needs no annual service, maintenance, or spare parts. You simply install a new unit and dispose of the old once it has reached the end of service life.
The Hammar H20 White Strong Rope is secured to the deck or liferaft cradle and attached to the liferaft lashing with a slip hook. If the ship sinks, the water pressure will, within four meters, activate the sharp knife, which cuts the rope, and the liferaft will float free. As the ship sinks, the liferaft painter line will stretch, and the liferaft starts to inflate. The Red Weak Link™ breaks, and survivors can board the floating liferaft.
The Hammar H20 R consists of a looped white rope line, a release mechanism, and a Red Weak Link™ (breaking strength 2,2 ± 0,4kN). The breaking strength of the H20 R is 15kN.
Lifetime
The H20 is available in a 24 month (H20 R) and a 30 month (H20 RX) operational life option. An H20 may be stored for up to five years (shelf life) from manufacturing before installed onboard. It should be stored in its box in a dry, temperature regulated, and UV-protected environment.
Approvals
The SOLAS 74/96 Convention states that life-saving appliances should comply with the LSA (Life-Saving Appliances) Code's applicable requirements (as amended by IMO Resolution MSC. 48(66)). LSA is subject to General Requirements in LSA-Code ch 1.2. You will find requirements such as that the product should not be damaged in air temperatures in the range of -30°C to +65°C and that it should be resistant to corrosion and deterioration when exposed to sunlight. The requirements for Float Free Arrangements for Liferafts are found in the LSA Code in chapter 4.1.6 and Hydrostatic Release Unit in chapter 4.1.6.3. All Hammar H20 R are suitable for all SOLAS liferafts, even those with a capacity of over 25 persons.
